Event:  To remember Hind Rajab, the five year-old girl who was killed by Israeli soldiers in Gaza on January 29th 2024

Where:  The Peace Roundabout at Shannon Airport.

When:  1-2pm, May 3rd 2026, which would have been Hind’s eighth birthday

Who was Hind Rajab?

Hind Rajab, along with members of her extended family, was fleeing Gaza city when an Israeli tank fired at their car, killing her aunt, uncle and her four cousins. Before she died, fifteen year old Layan managed to call the Palestinian emergency services. Bursts of gunfire then rang out, killing Layan. The emergency services called back and Hind, terrified, answered. For three hours Hind, surrounded by her murdered family, lay on the floor of the car, pleading for help, as the emergency services frantically sought Israeli permission to rescue her. Finally, when it arrived, the Red Crescent ambulance was struck by an American-made MH30AI missile, killing the two paramedics inside. After twelve days, Hind’s decomposed body and the bodies of her family and the two paramedics were finally retrieved. The ambulance was a burnt-out shell, and the car had been riddled with 335 bullets.

Hind’s last hours are recounted in the Oscar-nominated film The Voice of Hind Rajab.

Why remember this child at Shannon Airport?

Shannon Airport has been used for refuelling by the US Military for almost twenty-five years. Millions of US personnel have transited through the airport buildings.

During the genocide in Gaza, US military planes which may carry arms and weapons have stopped in Shannon en route to Israel. As a result, Ireland may have assisted in a genocide, and may be in breach of the Geneva Convention.

We do not know if the missile, guns and ammunition used to kill Hind, her family and the paramedics on January 29th 2024 passed through Shannon.

Purpose of event:

To remember, with love, an innocent child who was executed in a genocide.

To gather, as citizens, and send a message that the people of Ireland support peace.

To highlight the fact that Shannon is a civilian airport in a neutral country, and to look forward to the day when an Irish government has the courage to say No to war, and Yes to peace.

What happens on May 3rd?
