Shannon Operating Like a US Military Base this Easter
We're still keeping track of the ongoing US troop movements through Shannon.
In the past 24 hours there have been at least five troop carriers at the airport. Four planes have passed through Shannon on their way to and from the Middle East, with destinations that included Camp Lemonier in Djibouti, Al Udeid air base in Qatar and Kuwait.
On Saturday April 3rd Omni N819AX arrived at Shannon from Biggs air base Texas and then flew on to Al Udeid air base in Qatar and to Kuwait.
Omni Air N351AX also arrived at Shannon on Saturday, probably from Camp Lemonier in Djibouti via Sofia Bulgaria and then flew on to Fort Biggs air base in Texas.
Today (Sunday) Omni Air N342AX arrived at Shannon at 12.32am from Shaw air base in S Carolina and took off again at 02..31am heading for Sofia Bulgaria and is now on its way to the Middle East.
Omni Air N477AX arrived at Shannon last night at 20.29pm refuelled and took off again at 22.12pm and has since landed at Al Udeid air base in Qatar.
And as we write this it looks like N828AX is on its way to Shannon due about noon, coming from Robins Air Base in Georgia USA.
Depending on the numbers of troops on each aircraft, between 500 and 1000 armed US troops may have passed through Shannon Airport this Easter Weekend. Happy Easter for some; unhappy occupation and bombings for others in the Middle East.
