Shannon Complicity in the Illegal Attack on Iran

Body:

At least 153 people, most of whom were children, were killed in an airstrike on a school in Iran yesterday. The children who were brutally murdered were in the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school in Minab, and the ones responsible for their murder were the military forces of the US and Israel.

On the same day at 08.57, a US Navy air logistics flight left Shannon on its way to an air base in Sigonella, Sicily. It had arrived just after midnight on Thursday from Portsmouth International Airport. This is a joint civil and military use airport near Pease in New Hampshire.

Less than an hour earlier, at 08:08 a US Air Force Hercules C-130H arrived from Halifax Stanfield International Airport. On Friday it had flown from Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport and Colorado Springs Airport – presumably taking off from the military part of the airport that hosts the Air Force Reserve 302nd Airlift Wing.

Nine minutes later, another US Air Force Hercules C-130H landed at Shannon from the same places.

We photographed the two aircraft at Shannon on Sunday morning, as a group of peace activists gathered outside the airport as usual, to protest against its ongoing use by the US military.

These aircraft are not the ones bombing Iran as part of the illegal attack on  the country. But they are providing logistical support for the US and Israeli operations in the Middle East. And that makes Ireland complicit in the deaths of the children in Minab.

These were girls between the ages of 7 and 12 years.

It was another crime against humanity, in a long list that Shannon has shamefully supported.
